Chore Chart privacy policy

The short version

Chore Chart does not have a server. There is no account to create, nothing is uploaded, and the developer has no way to see your family’s chores, your children’s names, or anything else you put into the app. The app ships with no third-party libraries at all, so there is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no crash reporter collecting anything in the background.

What the app stores on your device

All of the following is written to the app’s own private storage on your iPhone or iPad, and stays there:

• Each child’s name, colour and chosen symbol, as you typed and picked them. No date of birth, no photo, no contact details.
• Your chores: title, icon, point value, schedule, and which children they belong to.
• One record per chore per day, with its status — assigned, waiting for approval, approved or sent back — and the child, title and point value copied onto it at the time.
• A points entry for every chore you approve, recording the child, the number of points and when.
• Your parent passcode, stored only as a one-way SHA-256 hash. The digits themselves are never written down, which is also why a forgotten passcode cannot be recovered.
• Two settings: whether Face ID or Touch ID may be used, and whether approval notifications are on.

None of this is transmitted anywhere. The app has no networking code, so there is no request it could make even if it were asked to.

What is collected about you

Nothing. Chore Chart does not collect, transmit, sell, share or rent personal information. It does not build a profile of you or your children, does not use an advertising identifier, and does not ask for permission to track you across other apps and websites, because it has no reason to.

Children’s information

Chore Chart is set up and administered by a parent, and children use it by being handed the parent’s device. Children do not create accounts, do not sign in and are never asked for any information about themselves.

The only information about a child in the app is what a parent chooses to type: a first name or nickname, a colour and a symbol. That stays on the device, is visible only to whoever holds the device, and is never sent to the developer or to anyone else. Because nothing is collected or transmitted, there is no children’s data held anywhere for a parent to request, correct or have deleted — deleting the app removes all of it at once.

Third parties

Chore Chart 1.0 includes no third-party software. There are no advertising networks, no analytics providers, no crash-reporting services and no social-media integrations in the app.

Apple distributes the app and provides the developer with the same aggregate reports every developer gets — download and impression counts, and country totals. These come from Apple, describe groups rather than people, and cannot be traced back to an individual user or device. Apple’s own handling of that is covered by Apple’s privacy policy, not this one.

Face ID, Touch ID and the passcode

If you turn on Face ID or Touch ID for the parent lock, iOS performs the check and tells the app only whether it succeeded or failed. Your biometric data never leaves Apple’s Secure Enclave and is never available to Chore Chart.

The four-digit parent passcode is a child lock rather than a security measure — enough to stop a child approving their own chores. It is stored as a hash, so it is never readable, but it should not be treated as protection for anything sensitive.

Notifications

The app can show one kind of notification: an alert on your own device when a child marks a chore as done. It is scheduled locally by iOS. There is no push server, no device token is registered, and no notification content leaves the device. You can switch it off inside the app, or in iOS Settings.

Backups and syncing

Chore Chart 1.0 does not sync. Its iCloud sync is switched off in this version, so your data lives on the one device you set the app up on and is not copied to another device or to iCloud by the app.

If you have iPhone or iPad backup switched on, your device backup may include Chore Chart’s data along with every other app’s. That backup belongs to you and is handled by Apple under Apple’s terms; the developer has no access to it.

Deleting your data

Delete the app from your device and everything it stored is removed with it. There is no account to close, no request to submit and no copy held elsewhere, because nothing was ever sent anywhere. Inside the app you can also archive children and archive or delete chores at any time.

If you email support

Emailing the support address is the one point at which the developer sees anything from you. In that case the message, your email address and whatever you choose to include are received in an ordinary email inbox provided by Google, and are used only to answer you. Please don’t send your parent passcode or anything else you would not want in an email. Support messages are kept only as long as they are useful for handling the question, and you can ask for yours to be deleted.

This website

This site is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics and embeds nothing from third parties. Cloudflare processes standard server request information, such as IP address and browser user agent, in order to serve and protect the site; that is Cloudflare’s processing, described in Cloudflare’s own privacy documentation.

Your rights

Privacy laws including the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to access, correct, delete and port personal information a company holds about you, and to object to it being sold or shared.

Chore Chart holds none. Your data is on your device and under your control, so access, correction and deletion are things you do in the app rather than things you request. Personal information is never sold or shared, because none is collected. The one exception is a support email you choose to send, covered above — write to the address below and it can be deleted.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Chore Chart changes what it stores or starts using a service such as iCloud sync, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change. This policy describes version 1.0.
